This past weekend, the Ice Hockey team won the Frederick Cup, a pre-season tournament composed of five teams from around the state.
The tournament is a round-robin where every team plays every other team once and gets a certain amount of points for each result. At the end of the tournament, the Vikings had two wins and two draws and finished with the most points out of all the teams.
“All four lines played with good energy, and we got a lot of the pucks to the net,” center Will Moss said. “We also had good presence in front of the net.”
It was the first time the team had won the tournament since 2011 when the team advanced to the state semifinals.
“Every time we’ve won this we’ve done well in playoffs,” goalie Zach Butler said. “It’s a good omen.”
The team looks to continue its success this Tuesday when it takes on Walter Johnson at the Rockville Ice Arena in its first regular season game.
