The second-seeded girls soccer team cruised past the seventh-seeded Richard Montgomery Rockets, Oct. 25, in the first round of the playoffs, 4-0.
The Vikes opened the game up early, scoring three first half goals and shutting down the Rocket offense.
The scoring started with a goal by forward Emma Anderson who split the defense and beat the goalie for the score and was followed up by midfielder Michelle Innerarity who received a quick pass in the box and put it in for the goal. Forward Clare Severe then scored another goal for the Vikes to increase the lead to 3-0 only 20 minutes into the first half.
After a scoreless beginning to the second half, forward Abby Meyers scored on a rebound off the goalie, adding to the large lead and making the game 4-0.
The Vikes’ offense was in control of the ball for most of the game and was able to get many shots on goal but the Rocket goalie made many key saves to try and keep the deficit manageable for the Rockets.
“We had a lot of good offensive plays,” midfielder Maddie Parker said. “We were able to work on many of our offensive plays and sets.”
The Rockets’ offense, however, was unable to get anything going with limited corner kicks and scoring opportunities throughout the game.
Goalie Erin McClanahan was also able to save the few shots that came here way to keep the game a shutout.
With the win, the 11-1-1 girls will take on the three-seeded Blair Blazers at home, Tues. Oct. 29.
