Drake, “Nothing Was the Same” & “Would You Like a Tour?”: Verizon Center Oct. 31

Canadian rapper Drake released his third studio album, “Nothing Was the Same” Sept. 24 to critical acclaim. He opted for a less radio-friendly sound this time around, even stating so himself. He raps, “This is nothing for the radio/But they’ll still play it though/’Cause it’s that new Drizzy Drake that’s just the way it go” on the album’s opening track, “Tuscan Leather.”  The album is a fantastic display of the artistry that earned Drake his fame, as he manages to fuse emotional lyrics with impeccable flow. Highlights include “Own it,” “All Me (feat. 2 Chainz & Big Sean),” and the smooth single “Hold On, We’re Going Home (feat. Majid Jordan)”. Drake will be at the Verizon Center on Halloween, so mark the date if you’re looking for a treat. His show features artists Miguel and Future, and you’re bound to hear a variety of music if you decide to attend.

Justin Timberlake, “The 20/20 Experience” Albums & World Tour: Verizon Center Feb. 24

Former N’ Sync frontman Justin Timberlake made a comeback after a six  year hiatus from the music business with  “The 20/20 Experience” in March, which has been one of the bestselling albums of 2013 so far. The album had a lot of similar-sounding material, but it produced some catchy hits like “Mirrors” and “Pusher Love Girl.” JT’s second installment of the year, “The 20/20 Experience—2 of 2” is a much more diverse album, with everything from high-profile features by Drake and Jay-Z to the more classic Timberlake love songs. Memorable tracks include “Cabaret” and “Amnesia.” JT will be hitting the Verizon Center Feb. 24, and tickets are almost sold out.

“Bangerz”-Miley Cyrus, released Oct. 8

Fresh off her scandalous performance at the VMA’s, Miley Cyrus is looking to stir up more trouble with her new album, “Bangerz.” She has had a lot of success with singles “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop,” the video of which broke the record for views in a single day on Vevo. It will be interesting to see where Cyrus goes with this album. She is an undeniably talented artist, but her new persona has left many people wondering what happened to the young Disney star from “Hannah Montana.”

Katy Perry's album has already gained attention from her upcoming album's extensive promotion, which includes a contest for high schools to create a music video to hit single "Roar." The winner will get a live performance from Perry. Photo courtesy Billboard.

“PRISM”-Katy Perry, released Oct. 22

Now that her massive hit single, “Roar” has gone viral, Katy Perry looks to continue her successful career with the release of her 4th studio album, “PRISM”. With all of the effort put into Whitman’s “Roar” video, this will be one to which the Whitman Community will want to pay attention. Two more singles, “Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J)” and “Walking on Air” have been released, and it may pay to brush up on your Katy Perry knowledge in case she decides to make an appearance at Whitman.
