The girls soccer team rolled past the previously undefeated Gaithersburg Trojans, 2-0, Sept. 30.
The lady Vikes started the game off quickly taking a 2-0 lead within the first 11 minutes of the game. The first goal came off a corner kick which led to a fight for the ball in front of the net until midfielder Bahar Ulusan was finally able to score.
The girls then scored their second goal just six minutes later on a breakaway pass that lead Emma Anderson past the Trojan defense where she was easily able to beat the goalkeeper.
The defense once again recorded another shutout while the offense controlling the time of possession for most of the game and tallied 21 shots.
“Our defensive line is very strong because of our strong senior leadership,” defender Lela Walter said.
The win was one of the first big tests for the Vikes this season.
“Tonight was probably our biggest test of the season so far,” Walter said. “I think our team’s technical skills allowed us to play, prevail and enforce a faster speed of play.”
The girls will take on the 4-1 Richard Montgomery Rockets on the road, Oct. 3 before they come home for a big match-up against the undefeated Churchill Bulldogs, Oct. 7.
