The girls soccer team had another strong performance Sept. 16 against the Nortwest Jaguars, winning 2-1 in overtime.
The team found themselves down 1-0 after the first 20 minutes and trailed most of the game after that. It was not until with under five minutes left in the second half that junior Clare Severe finally broke through and scored the game tying goal.
“I was really relieved that we finally found the back of the net,” Severe said. “We’d been so close and I’m just happy we are finally scoring.”
Then in overtime, Severe scored yet again ending the game only three minutes into the overtime period.
“After our first goal all of the momentum was going our way and I’m really glad we were able to carry it into overtime and put the game away quickly,” she said.
The Vikes continued to play strong defense and raised the intensity during the second half to make the comeback.
“The first half wasn’t great and our intensity wasn’t there,” goalie Erin McClanahan said. “The second half we played much better and Northwest only had four shots on goal the whole game.”
The Vikes hope to carry their momentum into their home opener against Watkins Mill on Sept. 18.
