The girls soccer team dominated the ball throughout the game but could not convert their scoring opportunities during a 0-0 tie in their season opener against the Quince Orchard Cougars, Sept. 9.
The Vikes’ defense looked solid, not allowing a shot on goal for the duration of the entire game and came up with big stops on defense to keep the game tied late.
With under a minute left in overtime, senior Emily Martin had a key stop on a Cougars breakaway, preventing the best scoring chance they had.
The Whitman offense had many opportunities of their own throughout the game, hitting the post on three shots. The girls were also unable to convert on many corner kicks.
“We worked so hard and didn’t get the results we wanted,” junior Maddie Parker said. “This will motivate us to push ourselves and win the rest of our games.”
The Vikes will look to pick up their first win on Sept. 16 when they take on the 0-1 Northwest Jaguars.
