The girls basketball team fell to the 9-3 Wootton Patriots 64-54 in a tough loss to lower its record to 9-2.
The Vikes faltered in the first half, and though players were able to get open they struggled to complete baskets. They also had trouble with communication, an essential feature of man-to-man defense. This allowed the Patriots to scoot ahead by eleven points at the half.
In the second half, the Vikings turned it around. Their accuracy improved and they penetrated on defense.
Both teams shot the same number of three-pointers and the Vikes attempted more two-point shots. However, the Vikes were lacking at the foul line, making 9-17, compared to the Patriots’ 21-31. Though they were able to close the score decifit a three point margin at the end of the third quarter, the Vikes were overpowered by Wootton’s fourth quarter resurgence and lost by ten.
Next, the Vikes hope to rebound when they travel to take on the 4-7 Richard Montgomery Rockets Jan. 11.
