The girls basketball team pulled out a 47-41 win against the 2-2 Magruder Colonels, improving its record to 3-1.
The Vikes did well on defense, and had prepared for the plays the Colonels would throw at them by watching footage of them during practice. Like their previous game, the Vikings had scouting reports on two of the girls, and shut them out.
“We did a pretty good job of shutting them out, but a few of the other players who we didn’t have scouting reports on stepped up,” forward Linn Bumpers said.
High scorers include guard Kim Durante, with 11 points, and forwards Marie Hatch and Avery Witt, with nine and eight points, respectively.
The Vikes kept a narrow lead in both halves, leading 22-21 in the first and 25-20 in the second.
“As a team, we know we should’ve played better,” center Rebecca Ford said. “But we’re all proud of ourselves that we still pulled out a win.”
The Vikes look to further improve their record Dec. 17 in a home game against the 3-1 Paint Branch Panthers.
