The basketball team fell to the Wheaton Knights 47-47 Dec. 8, dropping its record to 0-2.
Once again, the Vikes were unable to convert their offensive opportunities into points. The team also struggled from the free throw line, missing out on points that would prove crucial later in the game.
Whitman started the first quarter on a 9-2 run in large part thanks to the return of starters Daniel Lowet and Billy Lee. In his first game back, Lowet recorded a double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling in 16 rebounds.
The Vikes lead began to disappear after the first quarter, as Wheaton’s tough defense forced bad shots. Everything seemed to go the Knights’ way in the second quarter, including a half-court buzzer beater that put them up 24-20 after the first half.
Though Whitman kept the game close throughout the second half, the Knights were able to secure the victory due to a tremendous performance from point guard Tyron White.
“We’re just struggling to execute,” guard Samir Kaveeshwar said. “We’re looking to get back on track on Tuesday.”
The boys look for their first win of the season Dec. 11 when they take on the 0-1 Quince Orchard Cougars at home.
