The 8-6 field hockey team beat the undefeated Sherwood Warriors 3-1 Oct. 31, in its second playoff game of the season.
The Vikes had dropped a game against the Warriers earlier in the season, but this time they played with speed and intensity. Within the first five minutes, defender Abby Gross scored the first goal of the game.
The Vikes moved swiftly, pushing for control of the game and keeping the Warriors constantly on their toes.
“It throws them off when we start playing our game, which is so fast paced and so different from theirs,” forward Sydney Markus said. “They just can’t keep up.”
Later in the half attack Andy Kramer scored, stretching the Vikes’ lead.
The second half began much of the same as the first, with the Vikes using their speed to keep the ball on the Warriors’ side of the field.
“We definitely went to the ball on every chance we had,” Markus said. “We moved the ball to our strong side as much as we could.”
Dodging defenders, midfielder Jenna Kantor scored the Vikes’ third goal. Though the Warriors managed to score one goal, the game ended with a 3-1 Viking victory.
The Vikes will move on to challenge the 11-3 Blake Bengals in the regional finals Nov. 1 at Walter Johnson.
