The boys soccer team kept its undefeated streak rolling Sept. 20, shutting out the 1-4 Magruder Colonels 2-0 and improving their record to 5-0.
The team’s game plan thrived on keeping possession and preventing the Colonels from running with the ball.
“We were more skilled than the other team and our back line disrupted their long balls,” midfielder Andrew Wagman said. “Overall [it was] a decent performance.”
This strategy paid off early in the first half, as midfielder Davey Mason found the back of the net on a shot from the side of the box.
After scoring, the Vikes dominated possession and tired their opponents out by making them run around the field chasing the ball. Going into halftime, the Vikings held a 1-0 lead.
The team stuck to its game plan during the second half, scoring 20 minutes after the break. Wagman ripped a ball into the goal off a free kick following a Magruder foul, making the score 2-0.
The teams both played solid defense for the rest of the game, with neither one able to tally another goal.
The team will next take the field as it attempts to win its sixth consecutive game Sept. 27 against the 2-1 Kennedy Cavaliers.
