Baseball remains undefeated

The baseball team defied the curse of Friday the 13th in its game April 13, beating the 7-2 Quince Orchard Cougars, 2-1, and keeping its record undefeated at 8-0.

Pitcher Ryan McGill only allowed four hits and one unearned tally, maintaining his perfect ERA at 0.00. In the second inning, Drew Aherne scored off a hit by Andrew Castagnetti, while Patrick Hisle hit another runner in to bring the score to 2-0. The Cougars scored once in the bottom of the third inning, but the score remained locked at 2-1 for the rest of the game, securing a Viking victory.

Next, the Vikes look to protect their record when they take on the 2-6 Churchill Bulldogs April 16 at home.

The two team weren’t playing each other, but on August 4, 1982 Joel Youngblood was tredad from the Mets to the Expos and played with both teams in the same day. Youngblood became the third player to play for two teams in a day. He is the only player to get hits for two teams in a day and to play in two different cities in the same day. Incidentally, both hits were against future Hall of Fame pitchers Fergie Jenkins and Steve Carlton.
