Walking into the chorus room on Monday afternoon was almost like walking right onto the set of “Glee.” Cornell University Glee Club, an all-male singing group stopped by school this Monday as part of a 12-day northeastern tour.
The 40-person group, whose venues include the Lincoln and Kennedy Center, treated 7th period chorus students with a few songs. Whitman’s own men’s octet returned the favor, and impressed the visitors with their rendition of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours.”
The trip is sponsored in large part by alumni of Cornell and the glee club, a few of whom live in Bethesda. Gil Keteltas, whose daughter is a freshman at Whitman, arranged the group’s visit. Other alumni organized formal events for the club, like the concert at Holton Arms later on Monday evening.
Encouraged by a rave review from the Washington Post on their Kennedy Center performance last Saturday, the group put on their best show yet at Holton, singing a range of tunes from classical contemporary to traditional Cornell songs. The a capella subset of the Glee Club, called “The Hangovers,” performed as well at Holton.
