The golf team placed second in its county tournament Oct. 17 at Rattlewood Golf Course for its first loss of the season.
The tournament was held in a “scramble style”, where each player shot at each of the nine holes, with only the best score counting towards the team score. The Vikes finished with a score of six under par, while the Wootton Patriots narrowly came in first place with seven under par. The team had beaten Wootton previously in its regular season. The tournament took place after the end of the regular season, so the Vikes’ regular season record remains 17-0-1.
“[Wootton] came out of nowhere today,” captain Brendon Eng said. “For us, winning was our goal but this wasn’t devastating. Mostly we’re just gearing up for states.”
The golf team finishes out its season at the state championship Oct. 24 at the University of Maryland course in College Park .
