The girls soccer team defeated the 4-4 Richard Montgomery Rockets, 2-0, Oct. 10, maintaining its undefeated 7-0 record.

The Lady Vikes struggled with the Rocket defense before scoring, with early attempts by midfielder Aliza Wolfe and forward Emma Anderson narrowly missing the goal. Midfielder Alex Mason was fouled in the goal box midway through the first half, but her penalty kick went just wide.

Finally, six minutes before halftime, a ball by forward Dani Okon deflected off the goalie and midfielder Maddie Parker put it in the net, raising the score to 1-0. Strong defense by Emily Martin, Lottie Nalls, Corinne Lake and Clare Severe kept the Rockets away from the Vikes’ goal for the first half, allowing them little opportunity to score.

Forward Andrea McDonald netted the Vikes’ other goal early in the second half with a shot from outside the goal box. The Vikings played aggressively, with both McDonald and midfielder Bahar Uluson receiving yellow cards for slide-tackling.

Next, the Vikes travel to take on the 5-3-1 Walter Johnson Wildcats Oct. 13.
