The boys tennis team played in the second round of the county tournament on May 5, winning six out of seven matches. Each Whitman player received a bye in the first round because of their success in regular season play.
The second doubles team, consisting of Josh Lederman and Milan Dhar, won by default. Aries Wong dominated BCC 6-0, 6-0, while Sean Ngo, the third singles seed, also won 6-0, 6-0 against Springbrook. Joe Davis defeated his Rockville opponent 6-0, 6-0 as well. In addition, Jacob Pine and Adam Schefkind posted a 6-1, 6-4. The team’s lone loss came from its second doubles seed, who was defeated 6-1, 6-3.
Winning 6-1, 6-1, the third doubles team of Joey Gumataotao and Simon Amat viewed their match against Damascus as an important precursor to later rounds.
“We played well today except that we were kind of lazing around,” Gumataotao said. “All of these matches are a warm-up for Churchill and Wooton, and we’ll be seeing them in the semifinals.”
Each winning player will advance to the quarterfinals on May 6 to be held at various high schools in the county.
