The baseball team lost to the BCC Barons, 4-9, on April 14, dropping their record to 5-3.
Opening strong, James Dionne scored a run in the first inning, but it was quickly answered with a run by BCC. The Vikings scored again in the second inning only to be matched by BCC once more. In the third inning, however, the Barons touched home plate six times and the Vikes couldn’t muster a comeback.
BCC capitalized on the game’s many errors, improving their record to 5-4 with the win. Although the outcome wasn’t desirable for the Vikings, many players performed well: pitcher Gabe Steinberg fanned three batters, Michael West contributed a strikeout, first basemen Dan Duffy hit a homer and left fielder Drew Aherne added two RBIs.
“Once we made a couple of mistakes and gave up runs it was hard to come back,” second baseman Andrew Castagnetti said. “But we have tomorrow to bounce back and to show other teams in the county that we are still a contender.”
The boys hope to rebound from the loss when they host the Northwest Jaguars on community night on April 15.
