The boys soccer team (3–2) defeated the Winston Churchill Bulldogs (2–1) 2–1 in an exhilarating match on Tuesday night.
The game immediately saw action when the Bulldogs pushed past the Whitman defense to score the game’s first goal. However, the Vikes quickly responded when junior Juan Markarian hit the back of the net, knotting the game at one. The goal gave Whitman momentum, and with seconds remaining in the first half, the Vikes were awarded a penalty kick, but unfortunately, the shot was saved by Churchill, keeping the game tied at one all.
For almost all of the second half, there were few shots on the net, and was a defensive battle with both teams struggling to take the lead. However, with 1:20 left on the clock, junior Sean Curran found senior Tyler Coune, who cleared the ball in the goal.
The Vikes will look to continue their wins streak when they face Blair Blazers (1–2) on Friday night at 7:15.
