The boys soccer team (3–1–1) outlasted the Northwest Jaguars (4–1) 2–1 in overtime Tuesday night.

The Vikes scored the only goal of the first half early on when defender Abe Hoogeveen headed the ball off a corner kick into the goal, taking a 1–0 lead into halftime.

However, the Jaguars came back early in the second half to tie the game off a penalty kick, and both teams played strong defense for the rest of the second half to force the game into overtime.

Overtime lasted two periods, but both teams couldn’t find the net approaching three minutes remaining in the second period of overtime. But defender Hunter Lee got the ball near the goal and passed to midfielder Aaron Gunther who rocketed the ball into the goal, ending the game.

The team next faces the Paint Branch Panthers (0–2–1) Thursday at 5:45 pm at Paint Branch High School.
