Sophomore wins national debate championship

The speech and debate team won its third consecutive victory at the National Catholic Forensic League  championship in Omaha, Nebraska this Memorial Day weekend. The team also ranked among the top five in the nation in debate.

In addition to the team honor, sophomore Stephanie Franklin defeated reigning champion Karlyn Gorski, a senior at Perkiomen Valley High School, to win the Lincoln-Douglas debate tournament.  It was the first time in national history that a sophomore won the tournament.

“We’ve had juniors win before, but never a sophomore,” said Franklin. “I was really surprised that I won.”

In addition, Junior Amar Mukunda won third place in student congress debate.
