The girls basketball team crushed the Richard Montgomery Rockets 69–19 Wednesday afternoon and beat the Holy Child Tigers 66–47 Thursday afternoon making their record 17–3 on the season.
The Vikes, who hadn’t played for a week, got off to a slow start versus RM on Wednesday. But they still played lockdown defense and took a 28–7 lead heading into the break.
They broke things open in the second half by going up 51–13, and eventually closed out the fourth quarter only giving up six more points to the Rockets.
Guard Hannah Niles had a big game for the squad, scoring a season-best 20 points. “I was very active on the boards and that created second shots for myself,” Niles said. “I was also shooting well so my teammates were looking for me and Kenah was calling plays for me.”
Guard Abby Meyers added 16 points.
On Thursday night against Holy Child, the Vikes dominated the first quarter. They jumped out to a 18–0 lead against the first non-conference foe they’ve faced in nearly two months.
In the second quarter, the Tigers capitalized off of multiple turnovers for a 26-point outburst. The Vikes held a slim 34–26 lead going into the half.
In the second half the team regained control and put the game out of reach, putting up 18 more points in the third quarter.
Guard Abby Meyers had 20 points, forward Betsy Knox had 15 points along with three three’s and guard Hannah Niles had 14 points.
