The girls basketball team blew out the Einstein Titans 67–20 Monday night, moving their record to 14–3.
The Vikes faced a challenge coming into the game with Coach Kenah not being able to coach Monday night and guard Marie Hatch out with an injury. Yet nothing was different for the squad, which crushed the Titans from the start.
“We have a really good team bond and we were able to stick together as a team and execute without [Coach Kenah or Hatch],” forward Livy Meyers said.
Einstein opened up the game with an easy layup, marking their only lead of the night.
Guard Abby Meyers scored the first 10 points for the Vikes all in a span of two minutes. With more points from Meyers, guard Hannah Niles and forward Betsy Knox, the squad took the first quarter 24–4.
Although the team didn’t do much else in the second quarter, they still held the Titans to just two points, going into the half up 31–6.
The Vikes eased the rest of the way, with all players on the bench getting minutes.
Abby Meyers scored 26 points, Niles scored 11 and Knox put up 10.
Tuesday night, the Vikes beat the Churchill Bulldogs 54–32 in a low scoring slug-fest, giving the team their fifteenth wins of the season.
The squad held the Bulldogs to only 7 points in the first half, and put up 27 of their own. But the Bulldogs hung with the Vikes a majority of the way thanks to 17 made free throws.
Churchill had a much more effective half against the Viking defense scoring-wise, but it was not nearly enough to overcome the deficit.
Abby Meyers scored 16 points, Knox added 14, and forward Emily Meyers put up 9.
The Vikes host the RM Rockets Friday at 5:30.
