The ice hockey team overcame the Walter Johnson Wildcats 5–4 Wednesday afternoon after strong performances in goal and from the front line.
The Wildcats took the lead with the first point, followed eleven minutes later by a tying goal from defenseman Tiger Bjornlund.
The second period also started with a Walter Johnson goal, and although the Vikes quickly retaliated with three of their own, WJ responded to bring the score to 4–3. In the third period, both teams managed one goal each, bringing the game to its final score.
Defenseman Jamie Miura said that the offense was able to step up with many shots on goal.
“Joey Schaefer’s line played real well by scoring goals and maintaining puck possession,” Miura said.
Along with the offense, Miura said that goalie Matt Derry gave an impressive performance.
“Matt Derry had a great game in goal again,” Miura said. “He had some huge saves, including one great save on a man lost in coverage at the end of the game.”
The Vikings (7–4–2) celebrate their senior night against Sherwood Friday at 9:25 at the Rockville Ice Arena.
