The girls basketball team (5–2) defeated the B-CC Barons 58–39 Monday night for their fourth straight victory.
The team fired right out of the gate, streaking to a 20–4 lead in the first quarter. This would prove to make the difference in the game, as the teams matched each other’s scoring pace for the rest of the game.
“We played really good defense and got a lot of steals which in turn led to good offense,” forward Betsy Knox said.
In the second quarter, the Barons slowed down the Vikes offense, benefiting from strong perimeter shooting. But the Vikes proved to be resilient, halting the Baron charge and carrying a 37–19 lead into the half.
The two teams fought through a relatively low-scoring third quarter. And in the fourth, the Vikes held on to their double-digit lead en route to a 58–39 victory.
Guard Abby Meyers led the squad with 18 points, and guard Hannah Niles also contributed 10 points.
The Vikes play St. John’s Saturday at 5:30.
