The ice hockey team fell 7–4 to the Landon Bears Tuesday night, then bounced back the next night in an impressive 9–0 victory over Richard Montgomery.
Against Landon, the Vikes ended the first period down 3–2, only scoring one goal in both the second and third periods; the Bears got two goals in each.
“We started taking penalties and then they were able to start to wear us out over time, so even though we were playing extremely well, they were able to run us down and capitalize on their chances in front of our net,” said wing Martin Torrey, who scored the only goal of the second period.
In Wednesday’s game, the team got off to a much stronger start than the previous day, scoring six goals in the first period. Notably, forward Joey Schaefer scored five of the team’s nine goals.
“We were playing a hard forecheck and making it difficult for RM to break it out, giving us lots of time in the offensive zone,” forward Matthew Noenickx said.
The offensive action slowed down after the first period, as the Vikes brought in three goals in the second period and none in the third.
“Going into the game, we wanted to bury them early, so we cycled the top lines to increase production,” Noenickx said. “Then after that we cycled all the lines and played a more disciplined game.”
The team, now second in their conference, returns to the ice tonight at 6:30 to face Georgetown Prep at Cabin John.
