The girls basketball team lost 75-37 to St. Neumann-Goretti Saints, the number one team in the country, on Saturday night. It marked the girls’ first regular-season loss since 2013.
The team struggled to compete with the Saints’ huge front line, falling behind early in the first half.
“We could’ve competed better with them, but they were a college-level team who had the skills and athleticism a college team would have,” forward Betsy Knox said.
The Vikes committed many turnovers throughout the game, which caused them to not take as many shots as they would’ve liked, Knox said. Tough matchups against quality non-conference opponents such as the Saints should help the Vikes prepare for divisional play this season.
The team will host the Gaithersburg Trojans Tuesday night at 7:15.
