The field hockey team beat the Gaithersburg Trojans 1–0 Wednesday night to finish off the regular season 8–4.
An hour before the game, all 13 seniors for the team were honored in a ceremony. The Vikes employed a senior-heavy lineup in what was could be their last ever home game.
They went neck-and-neck with the Trojans in the first half, with neither team seeming to gain an edge.
Early in the second half, forward Elsa Bjornlund rocketed a shot into the back of the goal, giving the Vikes a 1–0 lead which they ran with the rest of the way.
The Vikes defense and goalie Cami Stenger held tight all night, preserving a shutout for the team.
“It was a fun night thanks to the effort of all the players,” forward Ellie Gill said. “It was sad for all the seniors knowing that their four years is coming to a close.”
In the first round of the playoffs, the Vikes will face off against the WJ Wildcats (4–7) Thursday at a time to be determined.
