Girls soccer bounced back from Monday’s devastating loss with a 3–1 win over the Northwest Jaguars (7–3–1) Wednesday night.
The girls were determined to redeem themselves from their 5–0 loss to Churchill, and got off to a good start with midfielder Kristen Bissell’s two goals within the first five minutes of the game.
“We all still had the game in the back of our minds, but we used it as motivation to win this game and help us secure the first seed in the playoffs,” midfielder Mary Kate Skilling said.
After the Vikes’ two goals, the team let up slightly on defense, allowing the Jaguars a successful shot.
“We kind of just had a lack of energy and we left a few girls unmarked in the center which caused them to get a shot off,” Skilling said. “It was a tough shot for Katie [Stender-Moore] to save.”
At the start of the second half, the Vikings resumed their usual intensity, sharing the ball on offense while maintaining their defensive presence and beating the Jaguars to the ball.
As a result, midfielder Emily Tompkins was able to get a header into the goal towards the middle of the second half, finalizing the night’s score.
The girls’ last regular season game will be held at 3:15 Thursday at home against the Northwood Gladiators.
