The girls soccer team continued their perfect season Saturday against Richard Montgomery, bringing home their seventh win of the year by beating the Rockets 3–0.
The game got off to an early start for the Vikes when forward Abby Meyers scored within ten minutes of kickoff and then scored a header off midfielder Kristen Bissell’s corner kick with twenty minutes remaining in the half.
“We moved the ball well—I think we had good pressure—and we got shots,” midfielder Kate Morrison said. “We connected from the back line to the field well, and then from the midfield[er]s to the forwards.”
The Viking offense was able to remain just as dominant in the second half with numerous shots on goal, though many were either too high or snatched up by the Rockets’ goalkeeper.
With 24 minutes left in the half, Meyers found an opening between Rockets defenders and brought the ball to midfielder Ellie Harris, who chipped it into the net for the last goal of the game.
The Rockets’ only clear shot came with five minutes left on the clock, but the attacker fell over a Viking defender, so the referee granted her a direct free kick on goal. The shot was quickly deflected by the Vikes’ defense, though, ending the game on a high note for the girls.
The Vikings will challenge the Einstein Titans at home 7:15 Wednesday.
