The girls tennis team dominated the Richard Montgomery Rockets 6–1 and the Northwest Jaguars 7–0 Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, improving their record to a perfect 4–0. The win against the Rockets was notable as the first Division I matchup for the Vikes.
In the RM match, first singles player Carina Greenberg faced one of the toughest opponents in the county, yet gritted out a 6–4, 6–3 victory.
“I had a slow start to my match,” Greenberg said. “Then I really forced the issue and started making her play, instead of me trying to go for winners.”
Additionally, fourth singles player Emily Myers won her match 6–4, 6–2, and first doubles team Lauren Evoy and Olivia Matthews defeated their opponents 6–0,6–2.
Against Northwest, the Vikes dominated matches all across the board, headlined with Greenberg winning 6–1, 6–0 and number one doubles combo Anna Marcus and Ellen Middleton winning their match 6–2, 6–1.
Hopefully these matches have prepared the Vikes for the toughest part of their schedule, which is right around the corner.
“Having a Division I victory under our belts definitely gives us the confidence we need going into our biggest rival matchups,” Evoy said.
The Vikes will face the Wootton Patriots in the biggest match of the season so far tomorrow.
