The Vikes came out on top Friday night in another nail-biter, edging the Sherwood Warriors 1–0.
The squad got off to a quick start as forward Zara Memon, the lone underclassman on the team, found herself uncovered.
“[Forward] Ellie Gill had the ball near the endline and crossed it across the goal,” Memon said. “Then, I lifted the ball into the top corner and scored.”
That would prove to be the only goal they needed, thanks to the team’s lights-out defense. Forward Rachel Berman explained that time of possession was key in holding the opposition scoreless.
“Our transferring of the ball from side to side and our quick passing helped us tire [them] out,” Berman said.
Goalie Cami Stenger, who toughed out a chipped tooth during the game, also had an impressive performance in the shutout, saving every shot on goal.
The Vikes (2–0) will visit the Wootton Patriots 4:30 Wednesday.
