The boys volleyball team lost 3–0 to the Wootton Patriots Wednesday, coming off of their first win in over three years on Monday.
The Patriots’ offense overpowered the Vikings in the first set, and with the shaky defense combined with a number of receiving errors, the boys went down 25–19.
The roles initially reversed in the second set, when the Vikes had a surge of offensive energy while the Patriots’ defense faltered. However, the boys found they were unable to keep their lead for long, ultimately scoring 20 points.
Wootton outmatched the Vikings in the third set, as the Vikes’ movement on the court slowed down, as well as their offensive power. In the end, the Vikes lost 25–16.
Despite the loss, the game displayed the major progress that the team has made
since their first game, playing a competitive match with the Patriots who were last year’s county champions, and are currently 8–1.
“It went much better than I would have thought it would have gone at the beginning of the season,” setter Stefan Greenberg said. “Just from the records you would think we’d get destroyed, but we put up a pretty good fight.”
The boys will go to Seneca Valley to challenge the Screaming Eagles Monday at 3:30 hoping to score their second win of the season.
