As February 14th rolls around, you may find yourself single and ready to mingle (or stay at home alone and drown yourself in chocolate). Although Valentine’s Day is a day of romantic gestures and happily paired couples, here are a few things you can do to treat yourself to a day of love and romance, but without all the love and romance.
1. Take a spa day: There’s no better way to focus on yourself than taking a trip to the spa. Whether it’s relaxing while getting a massage or listening to calming music while getting your nails done, the spa is one of the best places to venture by yourself. It allows you to seclude yourself from all the lovey-dovey couples and treat yourself to a well-deserved day of relaxation.
2. Go out to dinner with your parents: I know this may not sound ideal, but tagging along with your parents as they go on a romantic date night is a win for everyone. You get the nice food and environment while being surrounded by the people who love you most in the world: your parents. If they would rather leave you home while enjoying a private, romantic night to themselves, call up your friends for a night of fun.
3. Rent a movie: Just because you’re single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to be alone. Invite your fellow single friends over and rent a movie. You can cry over rom coms like “Sleepless in Seattle,” start binge-watching a new series like “Friends,” or die laughing over a comedy while stuffing your face with popcorn and ice cream.
4. Go on a hike: In an effort to show your love to most important thing on this planet, the earth itself, go on a hike and appreciate the sheer beauty the world has to offer. Down the Billy Goat trail, or even a walk around the national mall, you can take in all the beauty of the outdoors.
5. Game night: Call up your friends and have a game night. From cards to video games, there are so many activities that you and your friends can do without being focused on romance. Instead, work on your betting with a game of poker and enjoy a fun night staying in.
