New restaurant Indigo House serves delicious Asian-inspired food

Last year, upon arriving at 7945 Macarthur Boulevard, one might have expected to be greeted by the Japanese restaurant My Sushi. But try stepping into the restaurant now and you will experience not only Japanese cuisine but also Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese.

Indigo House, a new restaurant replacing My Sushi after its closure last year, blends Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese cuisine with an urban American twist. It’s the third restaurant owned by Damian and Stephanie Salvatore, who own Wild Tomato and Persimmon in the area as well.

While Persimmon and Wild Tomato are more centered around the American food and dining experience, Indigo House diverges from American cuisine and takes a journey through the food of East Asia–offering warm pho soup and delicious chicken teriyaki. The Salvatores explained that the decision to have Indigo House be Asian-inspired was born from the Asian dishes of Persimmon’s menu and the Salvatores’ love for Asian cuisine.

One of my favorite dishes is the wok-fired Kapow Chicken, which is nutty and savory, with a very mild kick of pepper to it. And if you feel like your go-to sushi joint isn’t doing the trick, Indigo House also has you covered.

I especially recommend the dragon roll sushi, which melts in your mouth with the smoothness of avocado and eel but leaves a lingering spicy taste thanks to the aioli and the tuna.

I generally stick with my usual strategy of saving some room for dessert, and it always pays off. The profiteroles come with green tea drizzled on the plate below rich vanilla ice cream, which creates an unusual combination of milky sweetness that is out of this world.

Overall, if you’re looking for a new restaurant to grab a bite with some friends and you’re not afraid to splurge a bit (it’s admittedly not cheap), try Indigo House. You won’t be disappointed.
