Whitman split matches Thursday at home in a tri-meet against two out of county opponents, besting Digital Harbor and falling to North Hagerstown, leaving the Viking’s record at 7-1.
Starting off strong, Whitman dominated Digital Harbor across the entire lineup, dropping only three matches and claiming a decisive 55-18 victory. However, the Vikes next dual which took place immediately afterwards, ended in a tough 55-12 defeat.
“We wrestled really well against Digital Harbor,” junior Zach Salem-Mackall said. “But North Hagerstown was a team that was at so much of a higher level you just have to tip your hat to their skill.”
North Hagerstown placed second in duals at the state tournament last year. In the dual, only four wrestlers for Whitman managed to earn wins.
Whitman has another tri-meet this weekend against two tough teams, the Northwest Jaguars and the previous state dual champions, the Damascus Hornets.
“Next up is Damascus and Northwest,” 170lb Ezra Alexander said. “We’re going to keep on pushing through that and hopefully we can make the [state] dual tournament.”
