After trailing by three goals at halftime, the girls lacrosse team dominated the second half to defeat the Walter Johnson Wildcats 12-8, advancing to the regional final. This win extends the team’s winning streak to six and keeps their perfect home record intact.
The Wildcats started the game fast, looking to avenge a previous loss to the Vikings. Down 7-4 at the half, the Vikings had to stay committed and play for each other, defender Peyton Glagola said.
“Though they took the lead in the first half it was really important that we stayed positive and continued to play as a team,” she said.
Patient offense and a balanced scoring attack swung momentum toward the Vikings, helping them outscore the Wildcats 8-1 after halftime. Midfielders Emily Schweitzer and Maddie Parker both had hat tricks for the Vikings, and Josie Schwartz, Hannah Ginsky, and Caroline Schweitzer each scored twice.
“We played smart instead of getting frazzled,” Glagola said. “Once we got on a roll we needed to continue the hard work.”
Goalies Lily Blum and Hannah Tatem were key in the win, combining for 13 saves.
The 12-2 Vikings will host the fifth seeded Wootton Patriots this Wednesday where they will compete for the regional title and a spot in the state semi-finals.
