In a battle for first in the division, the girls lacrosse team lost to the undefeated Sherwood Warriors 14-6 in a game shortened due to inclement weather. The loss drops their record to 6-2 on the season and snaps a six game winning streak which dated back almost a month.
The Warriors, seeking a 7-0 start to the season, used quick ball movement and stellar defense to cruise to a commanding 11-2 halftime lead.
The Vikings regrouped defensively and held the Warriors’ high-powered attack to only three goals in the second half. The Vikings outscored the Warriors 4-3 in the second half before the game was ended nine minutes early because of thunder and lightning.
The girls will use their strong second half to give them confidence as they prepare for a playoff run according to attacker Hannah Ginsky. “If we played the way we did in the second half in the first the game would have been a lot closer,” Ginsky said.
Midfielder Jenna Hosker continued her strong play this season registering a hatrick.
The Vikings now find themselves tied for second in their division with Churchill, both teams holding 2-1 conference records. The Warriors stand alone at the top of the division with a 4-0 conference record.
The Lady Vikes will look to rebound Thu. April 24 against the 4-3 Walter Johnson Wildcats.
