The Lady Vikes basketball team blew away the 9-8 Walter Johnson Wildcats, 65-30, in its thirteenth straight win on Friday to improve its record to 15-2.
The defense came out stronger than it had ever this season, allowing the Wildcats to score only one lone point in the first quarter. From that point forward, it was clear that the Vikes would continue to dominate.
“We definitely stepped up and played Whitman defense,” Center Ally Markel said. “It clearly showed by only allowing them to score one point in the first quarter and 30 in the whole game.”
Forward Avery Witt hit a season high four three-pointers in the win, accounting for all of her 12 points.
The team was very successful in drawing fouls, which accounted for nine points as a whole.
With the season winding down, the Vikes look like the sure division winners with a 7-0 record in division play, two games ahead of the 5-2 second place Blair Blazers.
Steady production from leading scorers Marie Hatch and Nicole Fleck should allow the team to sail smoothly past its remaining opponents and into the playoffs.
They will face the 4-13 B-CC Barons on the road next Tuesday and will hope to leave with their fourteenth straight victory.
