The Lady Vikes defeated the Montgomery Blair Blazers on Friday, 65-38, winning nine straight games and advancing its record to 10-2.
For the second game in a row, freshman guard Abby Meyers led the team in points with 15, a season high.
This was a characteristic game for the Lady Vikes where they were consistent in scoring throughout the game and then tightened up their defense in the second half, allowing the Blazers to score only 11 points.
“This game was the first game all of us could honestly say that we played a full game of Whitman offense and defense,” guard Hannah Niles said. “This is something we have strived for since the beginning of the season.”
Whitman’s leading scorer Marie Hatch, averaging 10.1 points-per-game, also had a strong game, registering 11 points.
With this tenth win, the Vikes are now leading the division with a division record of 5-0.
“It was a huge team effort,” Niles said. “We played with tons of energy and great defense.”
The Vikes registered 28 field goals and received production from every player on the roster in this big win.
They will travel to Paint Branch next week to face the 10-1 red-hot Panthers who have lost only game to Damascus.
