The boys soccer team fell to the Walter Johnson Wildcats, 2-0, in the regional semifinal round of the playoffs to end its season.
Despite chances by forward Emmanuel Kanneh and defenseman Jeff Rosenberg, the Vikes were unable to score.
Thomas Stavrou of the Wildcats scored quickly in the game allowing his team to take an early lead. Willem Sheetz-Ziegel then scored in the 78th minute to put the game out of reach.
Back-up keeper Evan Cameron had another strong game, but was not able to hold off the Wildcats’ offense.
“Things did not go our way as we wanted them to,” Kanneh said. “But we played our hearts out and that’s all I could have asked for from my teammates.”
The Vikes have struggled scoring goals and have registered three or more goals only twice this season. A majority of their games have been decided by just one to two goals.
The loss of midfielder Davey Mason half way through the game did not help the Vikes’ chances of putting the ball in the back of the net, as he is one of their leading scorers.
The Vikes finished the season with an 8-6-1 record. Some of these losses can be attributed to the loss of key starters to injuries throughout the season.
