The baseball team won its third consecutive game April 4, defeating the Sherwood Warriors 7-6.
The boys started off the game firing on all cylinders and gained a 4-0 lead by the end of the third inning. A huge three-run home run by the Warriors in the top of the fourth inning, however, quickly brought the score to 4-3.
The Vikes offense was consistently efficient, getting multiple hits each time at bat. Centerfielder Drew Aherne’s RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning put Whitman up 5-3.
After tying the game at 5-5, the Warriors failed to maintain the momentum. In the bottom of the sixth, second basemen Ben Castagnetti hit an RBI triple to score Max Steinhorn. Shortstop Patrick Hisle immediately followed Castagnetti with an RBI single, putting the Vikes up 7-5.
Whitman allowed only one run in the seventh inning, winning the game 7-6.
“That was a great team win,” Hisle said after the game. “We never backed down and never let up.”
The boys look to win their fourth consecutive game when they take on the Gaithersburg Trojans April 6.
