The girls basketball team is now ranked first in the county after defeating a cross-county rival, the 4-5 B-CC Barons, 48-33, boosting its record to 9-1.
Guard Maddie Cannon scored the first basket of the game as she sank a three-pointer. Both teams scored 12 points in the first quarter, in a fairly even matchup.
Captain Brittany Fleck dominated the stat book, draining two three-pointers as the high scorer for the Vikes with ten points.
On defense, guard Kim Durante set the tone for the team, shutting down the Barons’ plays and creating havoc for the opposing players.
The first half ended with the Vikings up 20-17, and in the second half, the girls took the opportunity to stretch their lead by scoring more often and tightening their defense.
“We got our energy up, our passing was better and we were running our plays more thoroughly,” guard Marissa Cannon said.
The Vikes will look to add another win to their record when they travel to play the 8-3 Wootton Patriots Jan. 8.
