The 3-2-2 ice hockey team tied the B-CC Barons 4-4 at Cabin John Ice Arena Dec. 14 in a tough battle.
In the first 15 seconds of the game, captain Lucas Karron put the Vikes ahead with a goal off an assist from forward Matt LeBeau. With 1:18 left in the first, defenseman Jamie Miura extended the Vikings’ lead with a goal off an assist from Karron to make the game 2-0 at the end of the first.
Within the first minute of the second period, B-CC’s Aaron Ginns scored to cut the deficit to one goal, but with 13:24 to go in the period, the Vikings struck back with a goal from Dustin Gray off an assist from defenseman Michael Voehl. Then, with 3:53 to go in the period B-CC’s Nathan Jester scored to make the game 3-2 at the end of the second.
The puck dropped to begin the third period and the Barons quickly tied up the game with a goal from David Spencer. With just 4:23 remaining in the game, B-CC’s Zachary Briscoe netted a goal to give the Barons the 4-3 lead. Less than a minute later, Karron scored to tie up the game at four goals a piece. In the closing minutes of the game a few offensive chances opened up, but the Vikes could not capitalize.
Karron finished the night with two goals and freshman goalie Matt Derry shone in net with just four goals allowed on fifteen tough shots. The Vikes take on the Wootton Patriots at Cabin John Ice Arena on Dec. 21 at 9:45 PM.
