The golf team finished third in the state championship at the University of Maryland Oct. 24 with an overall score of 627.
On the first day of the competition, Andrew Barth shot an impressive 69 giving the Vikings confidence early while captain Sam Pastoriza shot a 77. Pastoriza led the team on the second and final day of the tournament, shooting a 72 to keep the Vikes’ total stroke count low.
The team placed third in the regular season with a total record of 13-4-1, after qualifying for states at the district tournament last week.
Despite a well fought battle, the Vikings couldn’t win the war. The team finished third in the state to Urbana and Wootton, who had totals of 626 and 603 respectively. The third place finish was an impressive end to a strong season, and the Vikes look to place even higher next year.
