The field hockey team overpowered the 0-8 Magruder Colonels Sept. 27 with a final score of 3-0, boosting its record to 4-2.
The Vikes’ game wavered in the beginning of the first half, as they adjusted to the Colonels style of play.
“Our number one challenge was just sticking to our game and sticking to our speed, because they play a bit of a slower game,” forward Kate O’Brien said. “As long as we just kept up our own game and played the way we play, we were fine.”
With this mindset, the Vikes were able to pick up their energy by the end of the first half, when midfield Jenna Kantor scored their first goal.
Coach Lindsay Weller mixed up her line-up, putting players that don’t normally play very much on the field, O’Brien said.
The Vikes dominated in the second half with a combination of speed, communication and aggression, O’Brien said. Midfielder Rachel Lang and forward Katie Choppin scored a goal apiece to solidify the team’s victory.
The Vikes hope to continue their win streak as they host the 4-1 Blake Bengals Sept. 29 at 9 am.
