Motivational speaker Lance Smith spoke to honors health classes on Thursday. Smith has published several books on positive thinking and has a cable TV show.
Smith opened the presentation with a story about an eagle and a weasel. The eagle was flying while carrying a weasel, but the weasel managed to kill the eagle. The weasel represents negative thoughts, Smith said.
“Drop the weasels,” he said, “or the weasels will drop you.”
The presentation continued with more stories and demonstrations, with some personal anecdotes thrown in.
“I was picked on by bullies, but over time, those experiences started to build me up rather than tear me down,” Smith said.
The most memorable part of Smith’s presentation was when he started to rap about his personal experiences while doing backflips, junior Jessie Mann said.
He enjoys speaking to students because teenagers are often going through problems, and he believes positivity can help them, Smith said.
“With teenagers, they’re going through so many different emotions, different types of stress regarding preparing for college and their future careers,” he said.

What a cool guy. They should get Josh Sundquist to do some motivational speaking at Whitman too! The more speakers the merrier.
