The softball team defeated the 6-6 Paint Branch Panthers May 2 with a final score of 6-4, raising its record to 7-6.
The Vikings started out strong offensively, seizing an early lead when catcher Sydney Gertzog hit a homerun, bringing two runners in.
The defense was sharp as well with stellar pitching by Helen Rosenthal who struck out eight batters and didn’t walk any players.
“Her pitching was phenomenal,” Gertzog said.
As the game proceeded, second basemen Abby Fisher made a crucial double play in which she caught a pop-fly and threw the ball to third with the bases loaded, getting both the batter and runner out.
Though Paint Branch had some hits early in the game, they were unable to score until the fifth inning.
The Vikings look to boost their record by defeating the 9-5 Northwest Jaguars on May 4.
