Swim and dive competes in regional meet

The swim and dive team performed well at the west region 4A/3A finals Feb. 18. The girls team avenged its Metro finals loss to Churchill, beating the Bulldogs by nine points and finishing first. The boys finished fifth with 198 points.

Going into the final four events, the girls trailed Churchill by 23 points. Wins in the 200 meter free relay by Reia Tong, Charlotte Meyer, Sarah Kannan and Audrey Gould and the 400 free relay, followed by strong performances by Meyer and Victoria Kuhn in the 100 backstroke, erased the Churchill lead, and the Vikes won the meet.
For the boys, Patrick Scordato finished third in the 50 yard freestyle, and Michael Sullivan finished fourth in the 500 yard freestyle.
The team hopes to follow up on its impressive performance in the state championship meet Feb. 25 at the University of Maryland.
