Hockey glides past Walter Johnson, 10-0

The hockey team defeated the Walter Johnson Wildcats, 10-0, Jan. 13, bringing its record to 5-1.

Forwards Seth Butler and Lucas Karron each posted hat tricks. Karron’s first goal of the night came only a few minutes into the game, when he scored while the Wildcats were on a power play. He added another goal at the end of the period to make the score 2-0 going into the second period.

In the third minute of the second period, Butler scored his first goal with an assist from Karron. Butler scored short-handed two minutes later to raise the score to 4-0. Only 44 seconds after Butler’s second goal, forward Colin Rankin took the puck down the ice an scored on a breakaway. Karron added his third goal of the night to bring to score to 6-0 at the second intermission.

The Vikes didn’t score again until the fifth minute of the third period, when forward Andy Dexter put the puck behind the Wildcat goalie with assists from forwards Alex Gandolfo and Seth Weintraub. Butler, Gandolfo and Weintraub posted the final three goals of the game in the remaining ten minutes of regulation.

The defense locked down Walter Johnson’s offense, allowing only seven shots all game. Goalie Matt Bruns saved all seven shots for a shutout.

Captain Aidan Neustadtl was proud of the Vikes’ performance against the Wildcats.

“We kept our game simple by getting pucks and bodies to the net and out-working them,” he said.
