Former Oasis founder Noel Gallagher’s debut album “High Flying Birds,” released Oct. 17, marks his first solo attempt after the breakup of Oasis in 2009.
The album doesn’t sound much different than Oasis’ catchy, guitar-driven pop style that resembles The Rolling Stones or The Beatles. Oasis modernized the sound of ‘60s British pop through Gallagher’s control and direction but sadly, sibling rivalries ended the band. Gallagher collaborated with former Oasis producer, Dave Sardy, to produce the album, which adds to the similarity in sound.
Besides the unmistakable resemblance, Gallagher’s impeccable knack for writing positive, upbeat pop songs remains intact and unmatched. Tracks such as “Everybody’s On The Run” and “Dream On” have addicting hooks and rhythms that make them album standouts.
Although the album doesn’t sound any different than that of Gallagher’s former band and the songwriting seems to be the same, the album is still worth listening to. The similarities make it seem as if Oasis never broke up, and that Gallagher is simply putting out Oasis songs under his own name. The bottom line is that if you like Oasis, you’ll like this album.
